Stoke City manager Tony Pulis remains hopeful the Potters will sign Portsmouth goalkeeper and England international David James on loan in the coming days.

The deal stalled last week after Stoke refused to pay James until the end of this Barclays Premier League season, which ends in May.

But Sky Sports is reporting a compromise has been reached and the loan deal will go ahead

“We were hoping we would have done (the deal) and got that sorted out before now but it hasn’t,” said Pulis.

“It has gone on a little bit longer than we thought it was going to take, but sometimes these things happen.

“We’re still interested in David. If we can do the deal we think it’ll be a good deal for Stoke and we think it’ll be a good deal for David.

“Hopefully. It’s a chicken and egg situation. We’re just hoping we can close the deal.”

The departure of James will heap even more pressure on Portsmouth, who are battling almost certain relegation and highly-publicised financial troubles.
