Here in new York State, Gov. Eliot Spitzer has ordered the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue undocumented/illegal immigrants driver licenses if they have a passport or proof of origin. he has made the argument that the policy will bring many of the 1 million undocumented/illegal immigrants “out of the shadows” and into documentation. Supporters argue that it will also reduce car insurance. Opponents argue it rewards illegal behavior, jeopardizes security (the federal Transportation Safty Administration requires identification to fly) and will only encourage more undocumented/illegal immigration into the state.
